About School
Established in 1889, St. Francis Xavier Girl's High School (SFXGS), Bangalore is one of the oldest and most respected institutions for girls’ education in Karnataka. The school is run by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes, a congregation founded in France in 1843, with a strong commitment to providing holistic education rooted in values, discipline, and academic excellence.
History and Legacy
The foundation of St. Francis Xavier Girl's High School was laid by Bishop Coadou with the dedicated efforts of Fr. Jansoone, who entrusted the school to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes. On 3rd June 1889, Sisters Anna Marie, Julie Marie, Marie Henrietta, Marie Dolores, and Marie Beatrice officially took charge of the institution after their training in England. What began in a small house on St. John’s Hill has now grown into a prestigious educational institution serving generations of young girls.
The congregation’s vision was inspired by six young girls in France who dedicated their lives to prayer, service, and education. Their mission emphasized not only academic excellence but also moral, spiritual, and social development, especially for the underprivileged.
